Linkedin premium

This year in particular has been marred by a number of incidents which has led to a decline in jobs around the world. Layoffs have been high especially in the IT, fashion and entertainment sector. And with the pandemic still going strong, there are very less chances of the old jobs getting revived.

However, there are certain platforms which can still be used to see if any employer has vacancy. Apart from the normal job portals like Monster, TimesJob and Indeed one can also creatively use LinkedIn to seek out job opportunities. It can be a valuable resource to connect with potential employers, build relationships and networks.

LinkedIn Premium Careers

LinkedIn is a social network specially designed for business professionals to connect with each other. You can network with people via Connections and interact with them through personal messages. You can also list all your academic and professional qualifications, experiences in a systematic manner. It provides two premium features - Premium Careers and Premium Business. Apart from these two, they also provide services for lead generation and hiring.

LinkedIn Premium Careers offers multiple benefits which cannot be availed by using its free version. Some of its most used features are Monthly InMail and Applicant Insights. These two are most beneficial especially when someone is seeking for a job. Other features are On Demand Learning and Who's Viewed Your Profile.

One can also perform the following tasks -

  • Find and apply jobs:- LinkedIn is one of the best platforms online where you can search and apply for jobs that are suited to your interests. You can get recommendations as well for specific positions.
  • Connect with professionals:- It is a great source to connect with professionals across the globe, thereby expanding your exposure and reach.
  • Use your profile as a resume:- Basically, your profile can be a modern resume format for employers to connect with you for relevant jobs
  • Get in touch with old colleagues:- LinkedIn serves a great opportunity to connect with your old friends and colleagues on the professional front.

How to use Monthly InMail to get attention?

The InMail feature allows you to directly send a mail to an HR, recruiter or employer of a company. You can craft a pitch and send it to professionals who are looking to hire or where your contribution would be helpful for them to grow and manage their business. Since you get 3 credits for InMails, it is important to shortlist which recruiters you will be sending mails. Some pointers can be used while selecting whom to InMail

  • Match your skills with the requirements of Hiring Managers
  • Do not select a company where you feel people with better skills and academic qualifications might apply. For example if you have never worked with Fortune 500 company before, it is better not to try for one through LinkedIn. Use Applicant Insights for an in-depth understanding.
  • See if you have skills in addition to the listed ones which can be helpful for the growth of the business. This way you can write how your additional skills will help the business to grow successfully.
  • Do not apply for a position where your experience is on the lower side. For example if a company is looking to hire managers with an experience of 4 to 8 years, it is better to skip if you have just 4 years of experience.

Ultimately, when you have shortlisted on whom to reach out plan carefully on what to write. The content of the mail should be clear and concise. It should explain why you are reaching out, what do you expect in response, your skills and qualifications and how they can help the recruiters business. Do not send a template but make it sound as personalized as possible by indicating one of their position, their business model and how your qualifications will help them achieve better growth.

Use Applicant Insights to understand your competition

This feature helps you understand the level of your competitors who are applying for the same job profile. It will tell you the number of people who have already applied, top skills and their academic experience. It is always better to apply for those jobs where you fall in the top 1 to 5%.

And it is not only about measuring yourself against your competitors, but also checking if the company is worth fighting for. There are many companies which are listed but does not have a good track record in terms of employee retention or growth.

Although, the growth chart and ratings given by LinkedIn are not endorsed by the employer themselves but it gives you a fair idea on whom to reach out.
